What Makes Handmade Jewelry Truly Worth the Cost

What Makes Handmade Jewelry Truly Worth the Cost

Dec 31, 2025Carolina Fojo

A friend once told me they loved my jewelry—but simply couldn’t afford it. This is the same friend who happens to be covered in thousands of dollars worth of tattoos. The truth is they could afford it. High-quality jewelry just isn’t a priority for them—and that’s okay! We all have things we’re willing to spend more on, and things we love but settle for the cheapest version we can find.

I’ve loved artisan jewelry since I was little. Not the diamonds-and-rubies kind—honestly, I find that pretty basic. I’m drawn to jewelry where you can see the artist’s mark, the pieces that are bold, unique, and unapologetically personal. That’s what I make: jewelry for people who care about artistry, craftsmanship, and how we adorn our bodies.

The Craft Behind Every Piece

Every piece I create—even the simplest ones—goes through at least twelve steps:

  • Design
  • Cut
  • File
  • Sand
  • Stamp
  • File again
  • Solder (this is the “welding” of jewelry)
  • Clean (removing discoloration from fire)
  • Darken
  • Polish
  • Polish again
  • Rinse & clean

The simplest pieces take at least 30 minutes, and more complex pieces can take 12 hours or more. Every step is done by hand, with care and attention, so that each piece is not just jewelry—it’s something made to last a lifetime.

Jewelry Materials That Last

Then there are the materials. Sterling silver and brass may look simple, but high-quality sheets and hand-picked stones come at a cost.

I still remember buying my first 2-foot sheet of sterling silver for $1,500 and sweating as I handed over my credit card. Only one year later and silver prices have doubled—and I expect they will keep rising.

Every piece you buy represents:

  • Quality metals that won’t wear out or bend easily.
  • Hand-picked stones chosen for beauty and character.
  • Materials that age gracefully, developing character over time.

Why It’s Worth It

When you invest in one of my pieces, you’re not just buying a ring, bracelet, or necklace. You’re buying:

  • Time and craftsmanship—hours of work, done with love and attention to detail.

  • A piece that grows with you, not a disposable trend.

  • A power totems that helps you become the unshakeable, fully expressed version of yourself.

Depending on your past jewelry purchases, my pieces might feel expensive—or surprisingly reasonable. But every penny is rooted in value, not price. This is jewelry made to be worn, cherished, and handed down—something that truly lasts.
