“You’re confident enough, you can pull it off.”
So while I’ll share some of my favorite styling tips below, the truth is this: the most important voice to listen to is your own. Are you drawn to it? Do you feel like wearing it? Amazing. That’s all you need. There’s no such thing as “too much.” The only thing that matters is YOU.
Styling for Beginners
If you feel like Bambi taking her first steps when it comes to styling your jewelry, here’s where I started: keep your palette simple at first. Pick clothing in clean, solid colors and stick to one metal (silver, brass, etc.). When your outfit is simple, you can absolutely ham up the jewelry—stack to your heart’s content without things looking messy.
It took me years to build out full “sets” in both brass and silver. A complete jewelry look for me usually includes:
I love monochrome clothing because it lets the jewelry take center stage. All black with brass is stunning. Same with deep greens. For denim or mixed colors, I usually lean silver—IMO it plays nicer with busier outfits.
Styling With Patterns (and How to Not Overthink It)
Once I started wearing more color and prints, the challenge shifted. The question became: What do I want the focal point to be—if anything? Here’s my process:
1. Start with your “must-have.”
I always begin with one piece I need to wear that day—a top, pants, a jacket. That usually hints at the metal I’ll build around: silver, brass, or mixed metals if I’m feeling artsy and extra.
2. It’s cool to be practical.
Is it cold? Windy? Am I walking a ton? Am I low-effort or high-drama today? Sometimes the weather picks my must-have piece for me (hello, my loosest, comfiest jeans!).
3. Play until it clicks.
Throw things on. Hold them up in the mirror. Mix, match, layer. You’re waiting for that “hell yes” feeling—not logic.

4. Choose your statement accessory(ies).
Accessories change the entire vibe. Jeans and a tee can look fancy as hell with the right jewelry. Unless I’m feeling super maximalist, I usually pick one statement area—necklaces or earrings—and let the rest support it.
-
If I want one necklace to shine, I’ll layer fewer necklaces or choose smaller companions.
-
If earrings are the moment, I’ll go simpler at the neck.
-
If I’m in a maximalist mood, then I keep adding until I get bored or it feels overdone.
-
Rings are my free-for-all: 1–2 bold ones per hand, padded with simpler bands for balance and comfort.
At the end of the day, great style isn’t about rules—it’s about resonance. It’s about what makes you feel powerful, playful, grounded, or divine on any given day. Use these tips as a framework, but let your intuition steer the ship. When you feel good, you look good. And you, love, can absolutely pull it off.
